Under their production banner Fazekas & Butters, showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have been busy selling several projects, including two hourlong series to ABC, and one each at Freeform and Amazon, as well as developing a series based on the Tao trilogy by Wesley Chu.
The two have a pod deal with ABC and through this, they’re developing the two aforementioned hourlong series. The first is a drama, written by Fazekas and Butters and tied to Disney parks mythology. They will also executive produce alongside former Disney exec Jason Reed.
The second is a Nisha Ganatra dramedy, which is set to explore identity, immigration, and the themes of a multi-generational Indian-American family. Ganatra will write, direct, and executive produce her series, with Fazekas and Butters producing as well.
Finally, the network has optioned the rights to Chu’s trilogy for a new series titled THE LIVES OF TAO, set to be written and executive produced by Chris Dingess. It follows Roen Tan, a regular IT guy who becomes inhabited by an alien named Tao and winds up as a secret agent to help save humanity.
At the ABC channel Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family, the producers are working on a Heath Corson project about the four Sage children, who found themselves in Arcana, a magical world, 14 years ago. Now, back in our world, they must reunite and face an invasion from Arcana forces.
Moving to the online world, Fazekas and Butters are also working on THE PROBLEM WITH MEL PURVIEW at Amazon. Based on a spec by Nick Towne, who will also executive produce, the series is a noir take on the kidnapping of Mel Purview who ends up in the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles.
Fazekas and Butters are best known as the showrunners of former ABC series Resurrection and Marvel’s Agent Carter. They are repped by ICM.
Ganatra has primarily directed in the past, including the feature film Cake and episodes of various television shows including Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Shameless, and Red Oaks. She is repped by ICM.
Dingess worked on both Marvel’s Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He also executive produced SyFy’s Being Human, Chaos on CBS, and Eastwick on ABC. He is repped by UTA.
Corson previously wrote for MTV’s Scream and is also an executive producer and writer for Crackle’s Aim High. He’s repped by ICM and Circle of Confusion.
