Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams is in talks for a role in Fox’s upcoming THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH. The Blue Valentine star would join Hugh Jackman in the original musical based on P.T. Barnum, the founder of the Barnum & Bailey Circus.
No word yet on the role Williams is up for, but Jackman is set to play the titular “greatest showman” Barnum. Zac Efron is also in talks to join the cast.
Michael Gracey is attached to direct, with a script written by Michael Arndt. Previous drafts of the screenplay were written by Jenny Bicks, Bill Condon, and Jonathan Topper. Original songs for the musical were written by Tony Award-nominated songwriting duo Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, who contributed original songs to the DreamWorks animated feature Trolls.
Williams recently appeared in the dramas Manchester by the Sea and Certain Women, both of which premiered earlier this year at Sundance. She can be seen next in the Todd Haynes drama Wonderstruck with Julianne Moore.
She is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment.
