The Mindy Project star and creator Mindy Kaling has been busy landing deals. Last week, her spec for a late night comedy show starring Emma Thompson and herself was acquired by Fox and now, NBC has given a put pilot commitment to a single-camera sibling comedy created by her and Charlie Grandy.
The two penned the untitled comedy which centers on a charismatic gym owner with no ambition who lives with his younger brother, a gorgeous idiot. Their simple life of women and working out is put on hold when they have to take in the older brother’s son…whom they have never met.
Kaling is set to produce under her Kaling International banner alongside Universal TV and 3 Arts Entertainment. Kaling and Grandy will also executive produce with Howard Klein from 3 Arts.
Kaling’s The Mindy Project was recently sold in cable syndication to VH1 and Freeform. She is currently attached to star in Ocean’s Eight, an all-female Ocean’s 11 reboot as well as Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time.
Grandy currently works with Kaling on The Mindy Project and worked with her on The Office.
