Morena Baccarin has signed on for a recurring role in this season of Fox’s GOTHAM, with the intention to stay on as a regular in the seemingly inevitable season two. Baccarin will play a doctor who works at the not-yet-iconic Arkham Asylum, a friend of Bruce Wayne’s deceased parents and a close confidant of Ben Mackenzie’s James Gordon.
The last time Baccarin appeared in a Fox show, it was Joss Whedon’s short-lived and fervently beloved Firefly. Given Gotham‘s ratings success relative to the rest of Fox’s current line-up, it seems likely this gig will last longer. Since the end of Firefly in 2002, Baccarin has appeared in guest and recurring roles on Stargate SG-1, The Mentalist, and The Good Wife (among others), starred on ABC’s V remake, and for a few seasons, traded science fiction for prestige television with a regular role on Showtime’s Homeland. Though Baccarin has a shorter film CV than she does in television, she’s not a stranger to the medium; she’ll appear in Paul Feig’s upcoming comedy Spy.
