Morgan Freeman has signed on to star in the upcoming mini-series based on the life of Deputy Marshall Bass Reeves. Freeman is set to produce the currently untitled project following the story of Reeves, who escaped slavery during the Civil War, and extensively trained himself in firearms. He went on to become one of the first black U.S. Deputy Marshals, and has been speculated to be the inspiration for the character of The Lone Ranger. John Sayles has written the script, based on the biography Black Gun, Silver Star: The Life And Legend Of Frontier Marshal Bass Reeves by Art T. Burton.
Known for his roles in Seven, The Dark Knight series, and The Shawshank Redemption, Freeman is set to star in the upcoming comedy Going In Style.
