NBC has given a pilot production commitment to BRIDES, a new gothic soap opera written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and to be produced by Greg Berlanti through his Berlanti Productions and Warner Brothers Television.
The series poses the question, “What if Van Helsing did not kill the three brides of Dracula, and instead they are now living in New York City?” The show is being described as “a sexy reimagining of Dracula as a family drama with a trio of strong, diverse female leads, a show about empowered women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy–and their non-traditional family.”
Aguiree-Sacasa is writer behind 2013’s Carrie remake, and has been a writer and producer for the HBO series Looking as well as the FOX hit drama Glee. He currently serves as Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics, and has previously teamed up with Berlanti on the Archie-inspired series Riverdale, which is currently in development at The CW.
As for Berlanti, Brides only adds to the super-producer’s recent hot streak. His latest show Supergirl premiered on CBS in July, while his other hits The Flash and Arrow are still going strong on The CW.
Aguiree-Sacasa and Berlanti are both repped by WME.
