West Wing alum Allison Abner and Orville star Penny Johnson Jerald have teamed up with NBC to develop a political drama following an African American female mayor. Jerald and Abner will executive produce and Abner will also write the series.
The series, set in Baltimore, centers on a newly elected African American female mayor, her female chief of police, and the district attorney as they work for the good of one of America’s most dangerous cities.
Tom Szentgyorgyi, Sheila Ducksworth, and LaVern Whitt executive produce alongside Jerald and Abner. Universal TV is the studio.
Jerald stars opposite Seth MacFarlane and Adrienne Palicki in the upcoming Fox sci-fi comedy, The Orville, and has previously been seen on The Larry Sanders Show, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Castle.
Abner’s television credits include The West Wing, Without a Trace, NCIS, and Narcos.
