In June we reported that a disturbing incident surrounding Westfield, NJ homeowners Derek and Maria Broaddus was being shopped around as a possible film adaptation. NBC has purchased the rights for this project and will turn it into a thriller series with the help of producers Alex Cary and Aaron Kaplan.
A young couple purchases their dream home, but a dark secret that the previous owners kept from the couple is revealed soon after they move in. Letters begin to arrive to the house from a man who identifies himself as “The Watcher” saying things like, “I have been put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming.” And, “I am pleased to know your names now and the name of the young blood you have brought to me.”
Alex Cary will write and executive produce with Aaron Kaplan from Kapital Entertainment. This sale will be the first to come from Cary’s recent overall deal with Universal TV after four years on the hit show, Homeland; he is repped by WME and Hansen Jacobson. Attorneys David Fox and Lee Levitt repped the Broaddus family for the story rights sale.
