At TIFF today, Robert Redford and Netflix started talks to strike a huge deal for the adaptation of Kent Haruf’s novel, OUR SOULS AT NIGHT. The book follows a widower and a widow (Robert Redford and Jane Fonda, respectively) who have lived next to each other in the same small town for years, and try to spark a romantic relationship with each other for their remaining years.
Fonda was interested in the role of the widow, Addie Moore, and wanted to work with Redford again. Their last project together was 1979’s The Electric Horseman.
Redford controls the rights to the book, and Netflix has tapped Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber to adapt. The duo were behind the hit romantic films (500) Days of Summer, The Fault in Our Stars, The Spectacular Now, and the upcoming Paper Towns.
Redford is repped by WME.
Fonda is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
Neustadter & Weber are repped by CAA and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.
