After the Peabody Awards‘ Board of Jurors announced the 60 finalists for 2015 and of these finalists 30 will be honored at the 75th anniversary Peabody ceremony hosted by Keegan-Michael Key on May 21 in New York.
On Friday, the winners of the entertainment and children’s programs categories were revealed, and Netflix proved once again that it has become a force with which its competitors must reckon. Jessica Jones, Master of None, and Beasts of No Nation were all bestowed with Peabody Awards, while streaming rival Amazon’s Transparent was also an honoree.
The George Foster Peabody Awards program, named for American businessman and philanthropist George Peabody, recognizes distinguished and meritorious public service by American radio and television stations, networks, online media, producing organizations, and individuals. Reflecting excellence in quality, rather than popularity or commercial success, the Peabody is awarded to about 25–35 winners annually from more than 1,000 entries. Because submissions are accepted from a wide variety of sources and styles, deliberations seek “Excellence On Its Own Terms”.
