The upcoming comedy NAKED from producer and actor Marlon Wayans has landed at Netflix for a global streaming premiere in 2017, with production set to start next month in South Carolina. The film is a remake of the 2000 Swedish comedy Naken from Mårten and Torkel Knutsson.
The Tracking Board first broke the news of the project earlier this month, but it had no studio or distributor attached at the time.
Also starring Regina Hall, the film is a romantic comedy with strong ties to previous movies like Groundhog Day and a less action-oriented Edge of Tomorrow, following Rob Anderson (Wayans) who’s irresponsible and unwilling to grow up, even as he’s on the verge of getting married. He finds himself forced to relive the same, miserable few hours — waking up naked in an elevator — on the day of his wedding to learn a few life lessons.
Wayans has seen plenty of success with his movies on Netflix, which is what led to this pairing, he revealed in a statement: “The response I’ve gotten from fans worldwide to my films on Netflix has been overwhelming, and I’m thrilled to be working with them on an original film. Also, I’m excited to be working with Regina again.”
Mike Tiddes is set to direct the film, based on a script by Cory Koller, Rick Alvarez, and Wayans. Tiddes previously directed Wayans in A Haunted House and Fifty Shades of Black. Alvarez and Wayans are also set to produce with Todd Garner. Sean Robins and Michael Flynn will serve as executive producers.
Wayans has written, produced, and starred in films like Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, and Which Chicks. He’s also currently producing and writing the screenplay for The Munsters at Universal, as well as creating the upcoming NBC series Marlon, which has been ordered to series.
