Nicolas Winding Refn To Produce Remake Of Cult Horror Classic “Witchfinder General” — Cannes



has boarded the remake of the cult horror classic WITCHFINDER GENERAL.

Refn will develop the film with his long-time producing partner Lene Borglum under his banner. and will also produce via Sunrise .

The 1968 original, which was also known as The Conqueror Worm, starred Vincent Price, Ian Ogilvy, and Hilary Dwyer and centered on a fictional witch hunter in Norfolk, Engalnd in 1645. The movie was adapted from the Ronald Bassett novel based on the real-life witch hunter Matthew Hopkins who was allegedly responsible for the death of nearly 300 women during the English Civil War.

The Drive director is continuing his streak of producing cult horror classics. Yesterday it was announced that his banner Space Rocket will produce a remake of the 1988 horror Maniac Cop alongside Vendian Entertainment and Wild Bunch under a multi-year, first-look deal.

Refn’s latest directorial venture, The Neon Demon starring Elle Fanning, will bow at Cannes and is slated for wide release date of  June 24.
