Noomi Rapace is set to portray Amy Winehouse in a biopic about the singer’s life. Simply titled AMY WINEHOUSE, the Kristen Sheridan-directed film is set to focus on the life and tragic death of the soulful recording artist. Alexandra Whitlin is producing, while CAA arranges financing and packaging. Talks are also in place with Mitch Winehouse, father of the British singer, to obtain music rights.
Though she had only released two albums, Winehouse’s second album Back to Black won three Grammy’s and received five nominations, awards including best new artist, record of the year, and song of the year (“Rehab”). After her death due to alcohol poisoning, Back to Black has since become the United Kingdom’s second best selling album of the 21st century.
Rapace made waves with her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. She’s known to American audiences for her roles in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Child 44, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. She’ll next appear in the sci-fi thrillers What Happened to Monday? and Rupture, as well as in Unlocked, which co-stars Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom.
