Coming-of-age feature, NOVITIATE, has filled out its female-driven cast with an additional trio of actresses. Melissa Leo, Dianna Agron, and Margaret Qualley are set to star in the film from writer-director Margaret Betts.
The film is set in the 1960s and tells the story of a young woman, Sister Cathleen, who starts to question her Catholic faith as she trains to become a nun. Qualley will play the lead, Sister Cathleen, while Leo has signed on as the Reverend Mother, and Agron is set as another young nun in the convent.
The women join the previously cast Julianne Nicholson, Stacy Martin, Rebecca Dayan, Morgan Saylor, Maddie Hasson, and Chris Zylka.
Novititate marks Betts feature directorial debut and Kat Westergaard has signed on as director of photography. Jen Gatien from DeerJen will produce. The project will begin shooting in January in Nashville.
Leo will next be seen in the upcoming The Big Short opposite Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt, and next year’s London Has Fallen.
Agron, who is best known for starring in the Fox series Glee most recently appeared in a trio of films this year: Zipper, Bare, and Tumbledown.
Qualley burst onto the scene in the HBO series The Leftovers and will next be seen in The Nice Guys, and recently signed on to star in Death Note.
