Based on the acclaimed 2010 documentary Marwencol, the film tells the moving true story of how one broken man (Carell) used his artistic imagination to restore his human spirit.
Insiders tell the Tracking Board that Wever will play the proprietor of a local store where Carell’s character buys all the models and toy figurines he uses to build the world of Marwencol.
In addition to Wever, the film’s female-driven ensemble includes Leslie Mann, Janelle Monae, Diane Kruger, Gwendoline Christie and Baby Driver star Eiza Gonzalez.
Zemeckis is directing from a script he co-wrote with Caroline Thompson. He’s also producing with Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke under their ImageMovers banner, along with Cherylanne Martin.
Marwencol director Jeff Malmberg will serve as executive producer along with Jackie Levine, while Universal executives Maradith Frenkel and Chloe Yellin will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
Wever won an Emmy for playing Zoey Barkow on Showtime’s Nurse Jackie, and her other TV credits include The Walking Dead, New Girl and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Though she’s best known for her work on the small screen, Wever boasts an impressive feature resume that includes supporting turns in Signs, Michael Clayton, Into the Wild, Tiny Furniture, Greenberg and Best Picture winner Birdman.
Wever will soon be seen alongside Javier Bardem and Charlize Theron in Sean Penn’s drama The Last Face, as well as in Scott Frank’s upcoming Netflix series Godless. She’s represented by Innovative Artists and Viking Entertainment.
