Warner Bros. has set its main cast for the Ocean’s Eleven spinoff film OCEAN’S EIGHT with Anne Hathaway, rapper Awkwafina (aka Nora Lum), Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and Rihanna. They join previously cast Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett. The film still needs one more lead to fill the designated group number in the title.
Garry Ross directs the film with a script he wrote with Olivia Milch. He also produces with Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh. Susan Ekins executive produces and Jesse Ehrman oversees with Greg Silverman for Warner Bros.
Since the project was announced last fall, many reports have swirled regarding the potential cast including producers eyeing Jennifer Lawrence, who worked with Ross on The Hunger Games, and Elizabeth Banks.
Rihanna has been slowly building her resume in the past few years with roles in Battleship and in the upcoming Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets. Silverman has reportedly beeing looking for a big vehicle role for the performer since early in her career.
Nora Lum, aka Awkwafina, is a rapper and actress who most recently appeared in Neighbors 2. She also stars in the comedy Dude which was written by Milch, which co-stars Alexandra Shipp and Kathryn Prescott.
Anne Hathway started her career with female-centric comedies like Princess Diaries and Devil Wears Prada, before turning to dramatic fare like Les Miserables. She is now focusing again on the broad comedies that made her a household name. In addition to Ocean’s 8, Hathaway also is set to star in and produce The Shower, a script that made the 2014 Hit List.
Hathaway is repped by CAA and Management 360.
Lum is repped by UTA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
Carter is repped by WME and MGMT Entertainment.
Kaling is repped by CAA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Rihanna is repped by WME and Roc Nation.
