Octavia Spencer has joined Lionsgate’s THE SHACK. Based on the best bestselling novel by William Paul Young, the drama follows a man who, in the wake of a devastating personal tragedy, receives a note, apparently from God, that draws him to a mysterious shack where the tragedy unfolded. Stuart Hazeldine is directing from John Fusco’s script. Spencer is set to play God.
The actress won an Oscar for her performance in 2011’s The Help. She was recently seen in the drama Black or White and she also starred in Fox’s briefly running Red Band Society. She will star in and executive produce Seacole, the story Mary Seacole, a Jamaican doctor who sought to work with Florence Nightingale during the Crimean War. But before that she will be seen in Lionsgate’s YA adaptation Insurgent, which releases later this month.
Spencer is repped by WME.
