Octavia Spencer is reuniting with The Help director Tate Taylor on his upcoming horror/ psychological thriller MA. The film will be produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, which has been on a hot streak with Happy Death Day, Split and Oscar-nominated Get Out. Natural Born Killers actress Juliette Lewis and Dracula Untold star Luke Evans will co-star.
Tate Taylor is best known for making dramas such as The Help and the James Brown biopic Get On Up, however having Taylor team with Blum, who specializes in horror sounds like a deadly combination.
No specifics have been given about the role Spencer will be playing. However Taylor did state, “I wouldn’t call her a villain. It’s definitely the most complex character she’s ever played, if I may be so bold as to say that.”
Spencer is currently in the Oscar race, as she scored her third nomination for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water. She recently appeared in the Sundance Film Festival favorite A Kid Like Jake. It was also announced that Spencer would be reteaming with Jessica Chastain on a currently untitled holiday comedy project from a script by Peter Chiarelli and Kelly Carmichael. She is represented by WME.
