The Room is considered one of, if not the worst film in history — and now the story of its creation is coming to the big screen. THE DISASTER ARTIST re-imagines James Franco as writer-director-producer-star Tommy Wiseau in the making of the 2003 film and if this teaser trailer is anything to go by, there will be plenty of laughs to go around.
Based on Greg Sestero’s book of the same name, the film chronicles Sestero (Dave Franco) and Wiseau’s friendship and working relationship throughout the troubled shoot of The Room, as well as their respective careers following the film reaching cult status, with audiences attending midnight screenings across the country. Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Zac Efron, Hannibal Buress, Melanie Griffith, Sharon Stone, and Jacki Weaver also appear in the film.
The teaser trailer depicts the infamous “Oh, hi Mark” scene, with Franco as Wiseau continually forgetting his line, to the point where everyone on set can recite his line to him until finally, after at least 67 takes, he finally gets it.
The Disaster Artist debuted a work-in-progress cut at South by Southwest this year before A24 acquired the film in May. It will have a limited release on December 1 before going wide a week later.
