Olivia Cooke and Douglas Smith have joined the cast of OUIJA alongside Daren Kagasoff, who just joined yesterday. The story follows a group of teens who, while playing with a Ouija board, make contact with an evil spirit and must desperately try to close the door they’ve opened before meeting their own fate. There’s no specific details on what roles they’ll be playing except that they’ll be the leads. Which I guess is just code for they’ll be the two teens that survive to the end.
To me that sounds like after years of development some red-faced executive marched into the room and slammed his fist down before proclaiming “Let’s just get back to basics!” Good for that guy, I guess. Really, I’m just happy it’s not found footage. it’s the little things in life you know? Plus I’m still holding out hope this will be closer to “Drag Me To Hell” than most any other recent horror movie.
Juliet Snowden and Stiles White are the latest scribes to take a stab at the script and they’ll also direct as well. Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Bennett Schneir, Brian Goldner and Daniel Persitz will produce.
Cooke is best known for “Bates Motel” and will next make her feature debut in either “The Quiet Ones” or “The Signal.” Smith is best known for “Big Love” and has appeared in “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” and “Antiviral” which implies at least a little informed decision making on his (or his reps’) part. He’ll next turn up in the horror musical “Stage Fright.”
Cooke and Smith are repped by Gersh and Paradigm respectively.
