Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone is looking to make a big impression at this year’s Comic-Con. Not only will it mark his debut at the fanboy event, but he will also be screening his upcoming biopic SNOWDEN for the first time.
The invite-only screening is being held at an undisclosed location in downtown San Diego on Thursday. Stone will be in attendance alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays the titular Snowden, and his co-star Shailene Woodley. It is also rumored that Edward Snowden will attend live via the Internet.
For Comic-Con attendees, who will not be able to attend the screening, there will be a presentation of Snowden in the high profile Hall H at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday. It will include never-before-seen footage and a live conversation with Stone and Gordon-Levitt.
Snowden brings a different kind of tone to Comic-Con amidst the sci-fi and comic fare. Based on the true story of NSA employee Edward Snowden, the film follows the controversial headline-making story of when he leaked thousands of classified documents to the press in 2013. He has since been granted asylum in an unknown location in Russia and has been seen as a hero, patriot, traitor and whistleblower.
