Oprah Winfrey will re-team with her Selma director Ava DuVernay when she stars in A WRINKLE IN TIME, Disney’s adaptation of the Newberry Award-winning Madeline L’Engle novel. Frozen writer and producer Jennifer Lee will write the screenplay.
The fantasy centers on a teenage girl who, after her family is visited by a mysterious woman on a dark and stormy night, is sent on an adventure through space and time in search of her missing father. Winfrey will play the role of Mrs. Which.
Jim Whitaker is producing through his Whitaker Entertainment along with DuVernay through her Forward Movement. Adam Borba and Stephanie Varela will oversee for Whitaker. Sean Bailey, Tendo Nagenda and Jessica Virtue are the studio executives for Disney.
Since ending her popular talk show in 2011, Winfrey has turned her focus on her network OWN and her production company Harpo, which has several features and series in development, including an original drama series with DuVernay adapted from the novel Queen Sugar. Winfrey will next appear on screen in the Richard Pryor biopic, Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? as Marie Carter.
Winfrey is repped by WME.
