Oscar Winner Eddie Redmayne Officially Set To Lead “Harry Potter” Spinoff “Fantastic Beasts”

Eddie-Redmayne-Best-Pictures is now officially signed on to star in the film adaptation of  J.K. Rowling’s FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM. The film is set to be directed by David Yates, who helmed multiple entries in the Harry Potter series. Rowling herself is writing the screenplay, marking her screenwriting debut. The story follows the character Newt Scamander, and is based on the textbook used by students in the Harry Potter series. Dr. Who star Matt Smith was previously mentioned to be in the running, but Redmayne was in talks earlier this month for the Scamander role.

Redmayne recently won an Oscar for his performance as scientist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. He is set to star as Lili Elbe in the biographical drama The Danish Girl.
