Outlander star Sam Heughan is in negotiations for the male lead in Lionsgate’s THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME, the action-comedy that will star Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Susanna Fogel will direct from a script she co-wrote with former SNL scribe David Iserson. Brian Grazer will produce under his Imagine banner, with shooting expected to start this summer.
McKinnon and Kunis will play best friends who become entangled in an international conspiracy once they discover that one of their ex-boyfriends was a spy. When he’s killed in the middle of a mission, they decide to take up the cause and finish it.
Heughan will play the titular spy, and it’s his first major role in a studio feature. The Scottish actor previously starred in the indie movie When the Starlight Ends, but he remains best known for playing Jamie Fraser on the hit Starz series Outlander, where he has showcased his chops as a leading man.
Heughan is represented by UTA and United Agents. Deadline broke the news of his casting.
