Journalist Joshua Knelman’s book HOT ART: CHASING THIEVES AND DETECTIVES THROUGH THE SECRET WORLD OF STOLEN ART has landed at Ovation TV where it will be adapted into a scripted drama. Storyscape Entertainment is producing.
The series is described as a drama that offers a fresh, contemporary take on the world of art crime. Set in London, the center of the global art market, the show follows a squad of elite Scotland Yard undercover police agents tasked with solving art crimes… and catching the criminals who aim to keep one step ahead of them.
Simeon Thornton, who is also developing the series Sovereign at The Forge, will adapt this series for Ovation. Bob Cooper is producing for Storyscape.
If picked up to series, Hot Art would join Ovation TV’s other dramas The Artful Detective, Versailles, The Tudors, and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. They also have docuseries Raiders of the Lost Art, which tells the stories about the world’s most fascinating heists, and The DaVinci List. Hot Art would fit in well in Ovation’s “Art Everywhere” brand, bringing a modern sensibility to the stories you would normally find on PBS. Versailles, in particular, has a strong online following that even created an “International Versailles Day” to celebrate their favorite show. The channel is still in need of a series that will bring the network the same attention WGN America saw with Outsiders or CMT is currently finding with Nashville, drawing in viewers and critics alike.
