Fox’s P.T. Barnum musical biopic THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH continues to fill out its cast with the addition of Rebecca Ferguson. She joins previously cast Zac Efron, Zendaya and Michelle Williams.
The project follows real-life figure P.T. Barnum, played by Hugh Jackman, who rose from humble roots and was able to hoax a gullible public, as he created the three-ring Barnum & Bailey Circus that made him famous. Barnum gained fame as a 19th century impresario with tours of Tom Thumb and Jenny Lind; he began calling it the “Greatest Show on Earth” near the end of his career. Ferguson will play Swedish opera singer Lind.
The film is a musical with the original songs being written by Justin Paul and Benj Pasek. Chernin Entertainment and Laurence Mark are producing with production set for a fall start. Kira Goldberg is overseeing the project for Fox.
Ferguson starred in Showtime’s The White Queen before taking Hollywood by storm opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation last year. She’ll next be seen in Girl on the Train, starring Emily Blunt, in October, and has also signed on to Life from Daniel Espinosa and The Snowman starring Michael Fassbender.
She is repped by ICM and Tavistock Wood Management in the UK.
