Paramount Acquires “Sam Phillips” with Leonardo DiCaprio to Star & Produce

Music biography SAM PHILLIPS: THE MAN WHO INVENTED ROCK ‘N’ ROLL is headed to the big screen as has acquired the book by with set to star.

The project follows pioneering producer Sam Phillips who helped make some of music’s biggest stars, like Elvis Presley and Ike Turner, from his tiny Memphis-based Sun Studio. The book was published by Little, Brown & Company in 2015.

DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson produce through their Appian Way alongside Mick Jagger, Victoria Pearman, Steve Bing, Ian Montone, Rick Yorn, and Guralnick.

Sam Phillips joins Appian’s growing list of book-to-film projects including Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America. Billy Ray penned the script which follows a 19th century Hannibal Lecter. Paramount also acquired The Corporation: An Epic Story of the Cuban American Underworld with Benicio Del Toro attached to star, and are circling the apocalyptic, climate change novel Sandcastle Empire.
