Scholastic book series CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG is, once again, bounding towards the big screen. The feature is a live-action/CG hybrid from Paramount and Justin Malen has been brought in to write the script. The project was previously set up at Universal.

The book series centers on a young girl, Emily Elizabeth, who receives a red puppy for her birthday that grows to be 25 feet tall. The first book was published in 1963 and grew to over sixty titles with 127 million books in print, two television series, merchandise, and a live musical. Clifford is so beloved that he even acts as Scholastic’s official mascot. The series was created by Norman Bridwell.

Malen has previously written Alcon’s comedy Bastards, and did rewrites on Paramount’s Baywatch and DreamWorks’ Office Christmas Party.
