“Party of Five” Reboot in the Works at Freeform

The reboot has landed at Freeform for with a put pilot order, Tracking Board has confirmed.

The new take on the sibling drama hails from original creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman and Sony Pictures TV, and this time the Salingers become the Mexican-American Buendias, who must navigate life after their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico.

Keyser and Lippman are writing the pilot with Michal Zebede and Rodrigo Garcia will direct.

The original series, which helped launch the careers of Matthew Fox, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lacey Chabert, ran for six seasons on Fox from 1994-2000 and launched a short-lived spinoff following Hewitt’s character.

Party of Five is the latest TV project to tackle the immigration debate this cycle, joining The CW’s Roswell reboot and Fox’s In the Country We Love, among others.
