Working Title is looking to tap Paul Dano as the star of its forthcoming hitman thriller THE ENGLISHMAN from director Edward Berger. Luke Garrett wrote the script set in the shadowy underworld of the Stasi, East Germany’s infamous Ministry for State Security.
The Golden Globe-nominated actor is circling the role of an ambitious young Stasi officer who is handed his chance to advance within the system by unmasking The Englishman, a peerless assassin whose identity is unknown to even those who hire him.
Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title are set to produce while Lucas Webb overseeing the project.
The project falls in line with Berger, who recently found success with his TV show Deutschland ’83, a coming-of-age story set in cultural and politically fractured ’80s Germany.
Dano recently starred the offbeat dramedy Swiss Army Man with Daniel Radcliffe. He is currently directing his feature film debut Wildlife starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan and can be seen in Bong Joon-Ho’s action pic Okja.
