Paul Feig has emerged as Sony’s first choice to replace Ivan Reitman at the helm of GHOSTBUSTERS 3. There have been no formal negotiations as of yet, but Feig and Sony have had some discussions on the subject. Plot details of the film are being kept under wraps, though original “Ghostbusters” star Dan Ackroyd will return, and the old team will hand off the torch to new ghost-fighting recruits. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, the next generation of Ghostbusters may be female.
That would make sense, given Feig’s recent history. He directed the female-led comedies “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” and his next project, “Spy,” stars Melissa McCarthy as a hapless secret agent. He’s also attached to several more distant projects–including a script from “Gilmore Girls” showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino–that are heavily female-centric.
Feig is repped by CAA.
