Ghostbusters director Paul Feig has found his next project as he teams up with Charlie Kesslering for a feature comedy revolving around a female engineer. The spec, TURNED ON, was written by Kesslering who is currently assistant to The Late Late Show host James Corden.
The script follows a brilliant and awkward engineer who builds an android to help out with life’s difficult situations. However, when the android begins to self-actualize, things end up spiraling out of control.
Stories about androids and robots have been popular for years — from Westworld to A.I. Artificial Intelligence to 2015’s critically acclaimed Ex Machina. A comedic twist on the genre will likely be an appealing facet for genre fans.
Jessie Henderson, co-president at Feigco Entertainment, will produce alongside Feig and Dan Magnante will oversee the project.
Most recently Feig directed the female-led comedy Ghostbusters. He’s also producing the upcoming Amy Schumer comedy Mother/Daughter for Fox and he’s currently in talks to direct Mindy Kaling’s upcoming feature about a late-night talk show host co-starring Kaling and Emma Thompson. He’s repped by CAA.
