Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington’s crime-thriller sequel THE EQUALIZER 2 is already set to be released by MGM and Sony Pictures on September 14, 2018, and the Tracking Board can confirm they may have found the movie’s villain in Pedro Pascal.
The Chilean-born actor first found fan attention from his portrayal of the gregarious Oberyn Martell on HBO’s Game of Thrones, but he had been doing television work going back to 1999. In 2015, he was cast as DEA agent Javier Peña on Netflix’s popular show Narcos, and that has led to even more movie work.
Earlier this year, Pascal could be seen opposite Matt Damon in The Great Wall, and he also stars in Matthew Vaughn’s action sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, opposite Colin Firth, Channing Tatum and Taron Egerton. He plays the Statemen’s top agent Whiskey, a key role in the movie.
Washington is returning as former special ops agent Robert McCall, following the success of the original The Equalizer, which grossed $192 million worldwide based on a $55 million budget. The new screenplay is once again written by Richard Wenk with Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal producing for Escape Artists.
There are no current details about the plot or the role that Pascal will be playing beyond the fact he will be McCall’s new antagonist.
