“Pitch Perfect” Star Skylar Astin to Lead NBA Comedy Pilot

has landed one of the lead roles in ABC’s new pilot. Casey Johnson and David Windsor are the single-camera comedy, which is described as a buddy comedy about “an NBA rookie who doesn’t speak English and a translator who doesn’t speak basketball.” Astin will play the translator, obviously, who is said to be sweet and somewhat wimpy.

The pilot comes from ABC Studios, Dan Fogelman (Galavant), Peter Guber and Mike Tollin of Mandalay Sports Media, and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, who are executive producing with Johnon and Windsor. Guber co-owns the Golden State Warriors and the is being done in cooperation with the NBA.

Astin starred in the hit comedy Pitch Perfect and will reprise his role in the upcoming sequel with Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. He also voiced a role in the animated comedy Wreck-It Ralph.
