Paramount has some leading ladies in mind for its Chris Pine-starring JACK RYAN reboot, and any one of them seems like a safe bet to play the young agent’s wife in the new franchise. Though Rebecca Hall was previously attached to star, the current frontrunners for the role are said to be Evangeline Lilly (“Lost”), Felicity Jones (“Like Crazy”) and Keira Knightley (“Pirates of the Caribbean”) – with Knightley rumored to be the studio’s top pick.
Actors who have previously played Jack Ryan, a character pulled from a series of books by Tom Clancy, include Alec Baldwin in “The Hunt for Red October”, Ben Affleck in “The Sum of All Fears”, and Harrison Ford in both “Patriot Games” and “Clear and Present Danger”. The Paramount reboot, however, will be the first time the character has appeared in a film not based on any of Clancy’s novels. A series of writers have been attached to the script, with the most recent draft being penned by David Koepp – the scribe behind “Panic Room” and most recently, “Men in Black 3”.
The new “Jack Ryan” is a prequel to the original stories, and shows the evolution of the character from businessman to CIA agent. When the billionaire Ryan works for frames him for a terrorist plot, the one-time stockbroker must clear his name, save his wife, and stop the true terrorist plot from coming to fruition.
Kenneth Branagh is set to direct the pic, as well as starring in it opposite Pine. Mark Bakshi and Eric Bana are exec producing.
