Primetime Emmys 2017: “Handmaid’s Tale,” “Big Little Lies” Win Big (Complete Winners List)

The 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards were handed out Sunday night, with THE HANDMAID’S TALE and emerging decidedly as the night’s big winners.

The Hulu dystopian drama won five awards, for Best , Best Actress for Elisabeth Moss, Best Supporting Actress for Ann Dowd, Best Directing and Best Writing.

HBO’s miniseries, for its part, won Best Limited Series, Best Actress for Nicole Kidman, Best Supporting Actress for Laura Dern, Best Supporting Actor for Alexander Skarsgard and Best Directing.

FX’s Atlanta also did well, winning Donald Glover two of his three nominated category, for Best Directing and Best Actor.

Diversity was a major theme of the night, with Glover’s win marking the first time a black person has won the Best Directing category, and Master of None’s Lena Waithe becoming the first black woman to win Best Writing, with showrunner Aziz Ansari.

The Night Of’s Riz Ahmed also won Best Actor in a Limited Series, making him only the second actor of Asian descent to win an Emmy in the history of the awards show, while Glover’s win was also a long time coming, making him the first non-white actor to win a Best Actor trophy in more than 30 years.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus broke a record with her Best Actress win for Veep, which was her sixth for the role of Selina Meyer. She’s now the person with the most wins for a performance in the same series. The HBO political comedy also won Best , for the third straight year in a row.

HBO was the big winner of the year overall, taking home 29 Emmys, including last Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys wins. Netflix also won big in 2017, coming in second with 20 wins, while NBC got 15 and Hulu got 10.
