The movie is written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and Barbershop: The Next Cut scribe Tracy Oliver. Latifah and Pinkett Smith will join Regina Hall in a story that centers on four friends who take a trip to New Orleans for the Essence Festival. While there, they bring out their wild sides as they rediscover their sisterhood through drinking, brawling, and a little romance.
Will Packer is set to produce under Will Packer Productions. James Lopez will serve as executive producer while Sara Scott will oversee at Universal.
Latifah and Pinkett Smith have collaborated many times before, but are best known for their co-starring roles in the 1996 bank robber drama, Set it Off directed by F. Gary Gray.
Latifah recently appeared in the drama Miracles From Heaven opposite Jennifer Garner. On the TV side, she played the Wiz on The Wiz Live! and nabbed a Golden Globe nomination for her starring role in Bessie on HBO. She can next be heard in the animated feature Ice Age: Collision Course. She is repped by CAA and Flavor Unit Entertainment.
Pinkett Smith currently stars as Fish Mooney in Gotham. Last year she starred opposite Channing Tatum in Magic Mike XXL and can be seen in the forthcoming comedy Bad Moms. She is repped by Paradigm and Overbrook Entertainment.
