Queen Latifah And Mary J. Blige Head To Emerald City For NBC’s “The Wiz”

and have joined the cast of NBC’s live production of THE WIZ. They join Stephanie Mills (who played Dorothy in the original), who will play Auntie Em, for the musical extravaganza set to air December 3rd.

Nine-time Grammy Award winner Blige will take on the role of Evillene, the Wicked Witch of The West. Latifah, who has appeared in musicals such as Chicago and Hairspray, will play the Wizard. She was recently nominated for an Emmy for her work in the HBO movie Bessie.

Tony-winner Kenny Leon is set to direct while Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will produce. The duo produced Peter Pan Live and Sound of Music Live for NBC, both of which were ratings and social media successes. The Wiz will be co-produced by Cirque du Soleil’s new stage theatrical division, and a Broadway revival will take place after the event.
