Plan B Entertainment has partnered with Annapurna Pictures and MACRO to tell the true story of Ryan Wash, a queer, black debate champion from Kansas City.
Daniel Barnz (Cake) has been tapped to direct the currently untitled project, which Wash will co-write and executive produce.
The film will follow Wash’s journey as he sets out to win the 2013 Cross Examination Association and National Debate Tournament, all while dealing with his own personal struggles. Wash wound up challenging and revolutionizing the debate establishment as a whole, and he continues to impact the debate community as a coach for the 2017 CEDA and NDT champions.
Annapurna will distribute the film, which MACRO will co-finance and produce alongside Plan B. Ben Barnz of We’re Not Brothers Productions will also serve as a producer on the project.
Wash is represented by Paradigm on behalf of the Gernert Agency, while Daniel Barnz is repped by WME.
