The upcoming lesbian romantic drama DISOBEDIENCE is in talks to add Canadian actor Rachel McAdams in a co-starring role with Rachel Weisz. The film is an adaptation of the Naomi Alderman novel of the same name with Sebastian Lelio to direct based on a script he co-wrote with Rebecca Lenkiewicz.
In the book, a young woman (Weisz) returns to her Orthodox Jewish home after her father dies. While there, she reignites the love she once shared with her best friend (McAdams) who is now married to Weisz’s character’s cousin.
Production is set to begin next year, with Weisz producing alongside Ed Guiney of Element Pictures and Frida Torresblanco of Braven Films and Film 4.
McAdams has had a strong year, appearing in the Best Picture-winning Spotlight and the Netflix animated film The Little Prince. She also has a lead role in Marvel’s next film Doctor Strange, which is slated for an early November release.
