Yorgos Lanthimos is turning to old friends for his next movie THE FAVOURITE. Rachel Weisz is in talks to the join the film, replacing Kate Winslet, after working with Lanthimos on The Lobster. Weisz would play the role of Sarah, Queen Anne’s close friend, opposite Emma Stone and Olivia Colman. The script comes from Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara.
Ceci Dempsey from Scarlet Films and Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Lee Magiday are producing. Andrew Lowe will executive produce for Element Pictures.
Film4 and BFI developed The Favourite and are currently co-financing Country Music.
Weisz will next be seen in Youth opposite Michael Caine and The Light Between the Oceans opposite Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. She was recently attached to the remake of My Cousin Rachel, and The Tracking Board exclusively reported that she will star in the adaptation of The Mothers.
Weisz is repped by WME, Independent Talent Group in the UK, and Brillstein Entertainment.
