Angie Tribeca star Rashida Jones is in final negotiations to join the New Line comedy TAG, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.
Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jake Johnson and Hannibal Buress are set to star as a group of friends who have been playing a no-holds-barred version of the children’s game Tag for the last 30 years.
Annabelle Wallis (The Mummy) will co-star as a reporter writing a story about the guys as they travel across the country tagging each other by any means possible.
Jeff Tomsic is directing Tag from a script by Mark Steilen and Rob McKittrick, who adapted the 2013 Wall Street Journal story by Russell Adams. Steilen is also producing the film with Todd Garner and Sean Robins.
Warner Bros. will release Tag on June 29, 2018, effectively taking the same release corridor owned this year by New Line’s Will Ferrell-Amy Poehler comedy The House.
In addition to producing her own TBS series Angie Tribeca, Jones is among the executive producers of TNT’s upcoming series Claws, which stars Niecy Nash and debuts on June 11. She also serves as an executive producer on the Netflix series Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On.
On the acting side, the Parks and Recreation alum will soon be seen in Drake Doremus’ sci-fi romance Zoe, which co-stars Ewan McGregor, Theo James and Christina Aguilera. Jones’ feature credits include Celeste & Jesse Forever, The Social Network, The Muppets and I Love You, Man. She’s represented by UTA and Schreck Rose.
