Epix’s scripted series GET SHORTY has tapped Ray Romano and Chris O’Dowd to star. The series is based on the 1995 film of the same name starring John Travolta and Gene Hackman, and on the novel by Elmore Leonard.
The dark comedy focuses on Miles Daly, who works as muscle for a murderous crime ring in Nevada. For the sake of this daughter, he attempts to change professions and become a movie producer, laundering money through Hollywood film. Instead of leaving the criminal world behind through, he accidentally brings it with him to Los Angeles.
O’Dowd has been cast as Daly while Romano will play Rick, a washed-up producer who becomes Daly’s guide through Hollywood. The series was adapted by Davey Holmes, who will also executive produce. MGM TV is producing. It is set to debut in summer 2017.
Romano, made famous for his sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, has remained a mainstay on the small screen since the end of the CBS series. He has most recently been seen on HBO’s Vinyl, Parenthood, and the dramedy Men of a Certain Age.
O’Dowd is known for memorable turns in the feature comedy Bridesmaids and the British comedy IT Guys. He has also starred in the series Moone Boy and Family Tree.
