STX Films / Paramount
There’s something funny going on and it may or may not be the upcoming comedy sequels A Bad Mom’s Christmas and Daddy’s Home 2, but man, are these two movies trying to compete for the same holiday business or what?
The two comedies open within a week of each other, and they both feature the characters from the previous movies dealing with their own parents coming for Christmas. Their respective distributors have also decided to release new trailers within minutes of each other.
A Bad Mom’s Christmas is the sequel to STXfilms’ 2016 comedy, which grossed $183 million worldwide when it opened last summer. Starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Susan Sarandon, Cheryl Hines and Christine Baranski, it’s directed once again by screenwriters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.
Paramount Pictures’ Daddy’s Home 2 reunites Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell as competing fathers Dusty and Brad, who now have to contend with their very different fathers coming to visit. Wahlberg’s Dad is played by Mel Gibson and Ferrell’s by John Lithgow. The original movie grossed $242 million worldwide opening over the holidays in 2015. It’s directed by Sean Anders, who also directed the first movie and Horrible Bosses 2.
WARNING: The R-rated A Bad Mom’s Christmas went all out with an expletive-filled Red Band trailer which might not be safe to watch at work or around young children.
A Bad Mom’s Christmas opens on Nov. 3 and then Daddy’s Home 2 opens Nov. 10. If you’re not ready for the holidays after watching these two trailers, you might as well face the fact you’ll probably never be ready.
