Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation star Rebecca Ferguson has signed on to play real-life figure Ruth Harkness in the period drama THE LADY AND THE PANDA. The film is directed and co-written by Justin Chadwick with production set to begin in the Himalayas in China next month.
The story is based on Harkness’s original correspondence from 1930’s when the New York socialite unexpectedly lost her husband and bucks society tradition to travel down Yangtze and into the uncharted Himalas. There she rescued an orphan baby panda and brought it back to the US, creating a nationwide sensation. Laura Bickford and Holly Gent Palmo co-wrote the script with Chadwick.
Producers include Europe China Picture Group’s Bickford and Michelle Qi, while executive producers are Miscellaneous Entertainment’s Joe Simpson, and Andrew Mann, Fiona Druckenmiller, Justin Brodle, and Christopher Brough.
Ferguson burst on the scene opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Rogue One and has quickly become a very in-demand actor. She can currently be seen in theaters in Girl on the Train and her upcoming projects include The Greatest Showman on Earth, Mission: Impossible 6, Life with Ryan Reynolds, and Universal’s The Snowman with Michael Fassbender.
She is repped by ICM and Tavistock Wood Management.
