The red hot sci-fi thriller RIFT from Larry Lasky continues to set the town on fire as it makes its way into every major studios and over a dozen top production companies. Zach Cox of Circle of Confusion is leading the charge on this one, which already has Rock Shaink attached to produce under his Romark Entertainment banner. Now, we’re also hearing that an A-list director is circling, cranking up the heat around what could be the summer’s next big spec sale.
Pitched as Bourne Identity meets Jumper, the action-packed story centers on an ex-special forces operative who, when a political fight over the future of the top secret RIFT teleportation technology puts his family in the crosshairs, must steal the device and go rogue in order to save them before they become collateral damage.
Lasky has previously appeared on both the Young & Hungry List and The Hit List.
Romark, who is producing Matriarch at Paramount, most recently teamed up with Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta at Anonymous Content to pick up the spec script Onward, Through the Night, and are currently developing Running Money with Chernin Entertainment.
On Wednesday, Silver Pictures took this into Lionsgate, Screen Gems, Sony, and WB, Vinson Films took this into STX, while Romark took multiple territories including Black Bear, Bold, and Voltage. As of Thursday, we can now confirm that Silver has taken this into Paramount, Vinson has gone into Universal, and Romark has added Endgame, eOne, Europacorp, Millennium, and New Regency.
