Step aside, Mr. President, it’s time for the First Ladies to shine.
Reese Witherspoon, under her Pacific Standard banner, and Spotlight producer Anonymous Content are developing a television adaptation of FIRST WOMEN by Kate Andersen Brower. House of Cards’ First Lady Robin Wright is set to direct and executive produce the project.
The book, whose full title is First Women: The Grace & Power of America’s Modern First Ladies is an intimate look at the First Ladies from Jackie Kennedy to Michelle Obama. The book was published on April 12 by HarperCollins, with the paperback set for a January 2017 release.
Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar, Ashley Zalta, and Doreen Wilcox-Little are also going to be executive producing with Bruna Papandrea of Pacific Standard.
Brower is a former White House reporter, working for Bloomberg News, CBS News, and was a producer on Fox News for a time. She is repped by Ross Yoon.
Launched in 2012 by Witherspoon and Papandrea, Pacific Standard has been busy for the past four years. The company produced the Witherspoon vehicles Wild and Hot Pursuit, as well as the TV pilots Big Little Lies and Tiny Beautiful Things. They are repped by CAA.
Wright won a Golden Globe for her role as FLOTUS Claire Underwood and was most recently seen in the film Everest. Coming up, she has big roles in DC’s Wonder Woman and Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to the 1982 film. She is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.
