Richard T. Jones joins the cast of Sony’s UNTITLED RIDLEY SCOTT SPORTS CONCUSSIONS PROJECT. The Peter Landesman sports drama will explore the effects concussions are having on sports players and the league owners who stand by while it happens. Will Smith stars as Dr. Bennett Omalu, a forensic neuropathologist who made the discovery of chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Jones has been cast as former NFL star Andre Waters, the safety for the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals before his death in 2006, an indirect result of a traumatic brain injury he suffered as a player. Rounding out the cast are Alec Baldwin, Albert Brooks, Paul Reiser, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Jones’ most notable credits are probably for his roles in TV series like Judging Amy, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Hawaii 5-0. On the big screen, Jones has appeared in Kiss the Girls, Why Did I Get Married Too?, and, more recently, Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla. Jones has a recurring role on the Netflix original drama Narcos and will next appear in Anne Fletcher’s action comedy Don’t Mess with Texas alongside Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara.
