Ridley Scott and Syfy are adapting Arthur C. Clarke’s 3001: THE FINAL ODYSSEY. The sci-fi miniseries will be set one thousand years after Dave Bowman was transformed into the Star Child, Frank Poole drifted in space, frozen and forgotten, leaving the supercomputer HAL inoperable. But now Poole has returned to life, awakening in a world far different from the one he left behind–and just as the Monolith may be stirring once again.
Stuart Beattie will pen the adaptation, which is the final book in the 2001: A Spacy Odyssey book series. Beattie and David W. Zucker will executive produce alongside Scott under his Scott Free Productions banner. Warner Horizon Television will also produce. The book series began with 1968’s 2001: A Spacy Odyssey, which was made into a film by Stanley Kubrick in 1968, followed by 2010: Odyssey Two, which was made into a film in 1984. 2016: Odyssey Three was published in 1987 and was almost made into a film at MGM.
