Pop singer-turned-actress Rihanna has joined the cast of Luc Besson’s sci-fi epic VALERIAN. Besson took to instagram to announce the casting and though he wasn’t specific as to what role she would play, he did hint that the part was a big one. Rihanna joins a cast consisting of Dane DeHaan, Clive Owen, and Cara Delevingne.
Produced by Besson’s EuropaCorp, Valerian adapts Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres’ graphic novel. The adventure is set in the 28th Century, where humanity has discovered the secret to time travel. Besson has tapped three elite visual effects houses to realize his vision for the big-budget sci-fi pic – Industrial Light & Magic, Weta Digital, and Rodeo FX.
Best known for her music, Rihanna has slowly branched into the world of film with roles in Battleship and This Is The End. Rihanna voiced the lead character in DreamWorks’ animated film Home, which co-starred Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez, and Steve Martin.
She’s repped by WME.
